Director of User Experience

The Director of User Experience reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer and is responsible for leadership of the User Experience function at NavigationArts. This candidate is responsible for the tactical and strategic management of the User Experience department resources (Information Architects, User Researchers, Content Strategists, Web Writers, Interaction Designers, Creative Directors, Art Directors, and Designers).

Primary duties include leadership, management, and promotion of the User Experience group.

Responsibilities

  • Defines and establishes department mission and goals and ensures they are aligned with company strategic plan
  • Recruits, hires, and manages a team of User Experience professionals
  • Mentors, evaluates, monitors, and gives timely feedback to group members on skills, performance, work products, and deliverables
  • Establishes and maintains high quality of work standard for department
  • Serves as a Senior User Experience consultant on project engagements and acts as company subject matter expert on all aspects of User Experience
  • Drives User-Experience and User-Centric design throughout company
  • Proactively stays up to date with current internet trends, technologies, best practices, and User-Centered Design methodologies
  • Works collaboratively and effectively with other functional groups to develop proposals, Statements of Work, establish work methodologies, and best practices
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information science, design, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology, anthropology, computer science, or related fields and at least 8-10+ years experience with information architecture, interaction design, visual design and usability testing of websites, intranets, and/or web-based products and services or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience (5-7 years) managing teams of creative web talent (Creative Designers, Information Architects, Interaction Designers, User Experience Designers) preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of industry trends and emerging technologies, with an ability to relate these trends to the company and its objectives. Uses that knowledge, creativity and company practices to obtain solutions to complex problems and to evolve User Experience department’s roles, methods, and processes.
  • Excellent oral presentation and written skills
